Lighting and colour
Soft daylight or diffused lights, white background, and colour correction against a reference card keep colours accurate.
Child models: good practice
Get written parental consent, keep shoots short, ensure a parent is present and follow child-safety good practice. Never use images of children without permission.
Flat-lay styling tips
Iron or steam garments, fill out the shape with tissue so it looks natural, and arrange sets as a full outfit. Keep props minimal so the product stays the focus.
Consistency across the catalog
Use the same background, angle and lighting for all products in a collection. A consistent look makes your brand recognisable and your listings look trustworthy.
Showing scale
Parents struggle to judge size from photos. A worn image with the child's age and height, or a flat-lay with a measuring tape beside the garment, helps them choose correctly.
Phone photography is enough
A recent smartphone in good daylight, a white background and a tripod produce catalog-quality kidswear images. Shoot in the morning or late afternoon light near a window, use a white sheet or board as background and a second white board to bounce light into shadows. Keep the phone at the same height and distance for every product in a collection.
Common mistakes
- Wrinkled garments.
